Abstract:
In this study, design optimization of a 1.5 kW Brushless Direct Current Motor (FDAM) has been carried out for fan and compressor applications. The initial motor design which is obtained by taking the IC 410 cooling method defined in the IEC 60034-6 standard into account, has been optimized in order to offer a high efficiency and compact structure by considering the geometrical dimensions of motor via Genetic Algorithm method. In the design process where the minimum cost/maximum efficiency criterion was taken into consideration, the performance of the optimized motor has been introduced by performing Finite Element Analysis subsequent to analytical calculations. The performance comparison of the optimized BLDC motor and a standard asynchronous motor is also given in the study. © 2021, The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG.
